July 17: Kat + Thomas

July 26, 2010

Kat + Thomas were married and had their reception at the Union Bank Inn. It is a small but very beautiful venue. They had a casino/Las Vegas theme, with purple and teal being their theme colors (which look spectacular together!)

The bride had made the trees for wishing trees but they were also used at the front of the room beside the fireplace mantel. They had a beautiful custom unity candle and a memory floating candle on each side of the ceremony.

For the reception, they did not want a dance. They wanted a fun money casino that was also a mystery that needed to be solved by the guests. It was extremely neat and the guests definitely enjoyed the change in entertainment. I have more décor photos coming up – you’ll have to see the beautiful centerpieces, but those are being processed by a professional so now these will have to do!

Woah so busy, so behind in posting the wonderful weddings I have had the opportunity to be involved in!

Jennifer + Vern were married at the beginning of July at the Holy Trinity Church in Sherwood Park.

The reception took place at the Northern Bear golf course just outside of Edmonton. The beautiful flowers + center pieces were done by Coral. The bride had a bouquet of mini calla lilies, and the bridesmaids bouquets of calla lilies.

ank you to Elizabeth from ENV Photography (new neighbor) for taking such stunning photos. The flowers are from The Wild Orchid - also new neighbors. In fact our whole building is pratically wedding professionals! Look for an open house in October, but for now here are some fabulous photos.

Bridal Parties

June 16, 2010

img_82451Photo Source

There is no right or wrong answer to how many people one couple should have stand up for them - in fact you don’t need any (just two people to come up during your marriage licence signing to sign). With that being said, there are a few drawbacks to having more than a few members on each side. Once you are over three on each side there are a few things to consider.

1. Conflicting personalities, there will always be bridesmaid that dislike each other but the issues can get more petty and more frequent the larger your bridal party is.

2. Costs, each time you add a bridal party member your costs go up. Whether that be in dresses, shoes, gifts, flowers, dinners, parties – etc. (Each bridesmaid bouquet can cost $90-$125 or more; boutonnieres $15-$25)

3. Time, more time is required for everyone to get ready (everyone will have to get up earlier), walk down the aisle, photos will take a lot longer and will be more difficult as the number increases.

4. Space, consider how much space in your ceremony you have, and the reception too! Sometimes having seven+ attendants on each side is not only costly but not possible with your venue selections.

Finally, remember to choose extremely carefully when selecting attendants – I cannot emphasize this enough, don’t add someone because you need to even out the numbers or feel you will hurt someone if you don’t have them, it never works out well.

Photoshoot in Red Deer

June 9, 2010

These photos were taken last month and FEATURED on Wedding Chicks (I’m very proud of this) But I thought it was my turn to feature these phenomenal images. Trust me these are far last tablescapes - in fact be watching for something new coming at the end of this month ;)

Fabulous Florist: Katrina George

Eco Entertaining

juliannekat6So take note of the place mats, they are from recycle cardboard. I used a template (scrapbook paper - from my favorite place Treasured Memories - Where I worked for several years!) and traced it out on to some scrap thick cardboard.

juliannekat1Wood cookies sliced from some trees my dad had to chop down - also very eco friendly :)

juliannekat2The table number was cut from a tree I found in the local eco waste dump :) Yup I stole it from the dump. Well worth it don’t you think? I’m also a fabric junkie and buy random fabrics that I think I’m going to make something out of and never do so I use them to inspire my tablescapes!

I so love this orchid image. The tea cups are from my Mother In Law, she loves to collect them so I just borrowed a few. The rest of the supplies are mostly from Salvation Army.

juliannekat4With the exception of my favorite find - the silver frog. What silver frog? Well the center piece of flowers is sitting in what is known as a frog. It contains several holes to put flowers in - kind of a cheating way of making arrangements at home. It’s an antique I scored for $20, it’s worth way more than that, say $75+. They are rare and hard to find in such good condition and in real silver. I use to work at an antique store (another one of my interesting and fun jobs) so I know a lot of random information on antiques and love a good find! I also have an exquisite collection of antique compacts (they were just stunning back in the 1920-1940’s) and antique Swarovski jewelery that was made by a Canadian jeweler.

christine__jon_07Well rain wasn’t exactly what we wanted, but the snow that followed the rain in the evening luckily held off until the evening! Christine and Jon are two extremely beautiful people who are very caring and fun - their smiles were contagious!

These favours (Photos to come shortly)were super yummy – and the cake stunning. I haven’t seen that level of work on sugar flowers in a very long time. These ladies at Jam on Your Face are certainly going to be successful, as their work speaks volumes for their attention to detail.

Candy bars are certainly hits at every wedding I go to, they never seem to get old. It’s probably because we’re all kids at heart anyways.

So what exactly does a Master of Ceremonies (’MC’) do? Well an MC is a host to the party, he or she (or more than one person) keeps the party going and keeps a general control on the crowd. Think of the Oscars - it wouldn’t be a show worth watching with out the hosts, it would have no real flow or order.

Generally an MC will introduce them selves before you (bride & groom) enter, and inform the guests that there are 15 minutes before the bridal party/bride & groom arrive and for everyone to get a drink and take their seats. Once the bride & groom have arrived your fabulous wedding coordinator will inform the MC and DJ that you are ready to go and the MC will announce the bridal party or bride & groom - however you have it set up. The MC then might do some introduction type talk, and of course ‘house rules’ (smoking, bar rules, exits, bride & groom kissing rules - anything like that). Dinner usually begins after this - but of course it’s your wedding do it however you please.

The MC’s job after dinner or during dinner is to introduce the speakers and perhaps throw a little bit of banter in between. Also if you have some sort of kissing game they would oversee carrying out this game - your coordinator will help too, but the main person will be the MC. The MC will make closing remarks after the speeches and then the DJ typically takes over - in some cases the MC will announce items like the slideshow, cake cutting, and first dance. It all depends on how you arrange your evening.

In the interests of your guests do not go over 30 minutes for speeches (six speeches).  It is also advised the MC show up before the guests at least 15-30 minutes to test out the equipment and speak to the wedding coordinator about house rules or the facility manager. You will lose the crowd. Also don’t let your MC drink until they are done - it doesn’t look or sound good.

A Gift He Won’t Forget

April 6, 2010

Why not do a private boudoir shoot for your hubby-to-be? It’s a very unique gift that he certainly cannot go out and buy on his own - so you know he won’t have it. There are many talented Edmonton photographers that now do Boudoir photography, it’s discreet and such a great gift. Why not take his breath away before you even walk down the aisle? Below are a few images, not as ’seductive’ as they may be - each photographer’s style is different.
