NEW Martha Stewart

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

So I don’t know how I missed these, because if you know me well, Martha is my God. She is my idol. I love DIY. Well anyways she launched a new line at Staples, which just happens to have products that would be perfect for your DIY projects. I personally love the Emobssed and Kraft paper labels!

Good Luck with your projects, I’m off to place my Staples order!

Wedding Tip

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Every time I watch a wedding show, or look at random wedding photos this one gets me.

What’s wrong with this photo? I can’t see her dress. She should be holding her flowers much lower. I’ve even seen photos where bridesmaids or brides have held their flowers almost up to their chins. So when walking down the aisle, hold your flowers at or under you bellybutton. Yes they are beautiful flowers, however, so is your dress!

There are few events in life that are as exciting and stressful, as shopping for you wedding dress. Here are a few tips on how to keep sane and ensure your dress arrives on time.

- It takes 6-9 MONTHS to order a wedding dress, go early
- Don’t bring an entourage, keep it to three people total
- Keep an open mind, how it looks on the hanger isn’t close to how it will on you
- Have an idea of the style you would like, bring pictures
- Go with a budget, let the sales person know the budget
- Go on an off day of the week, during the day (Monday – Thursday)
- Make appointments
- Do your makeup and hair, you’ll feel better in the dress
- Don’t be upset if you have to go up 2 – 4 sizes, it’s normal
- Don’t just start looking, it will overwhelm you

New Logo // Same Company

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

As you will notice over the coming weeks (it’ll take a little while) our logo has changed, it was time for a repaint. Nothing else has changed, we’ve had the same logo for almost five years and it just wasn’t suiting our direction anymore. We’re extremely happy with the new look.

Cheers!

Big Summary

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Well, if you’re a regular follower you may have noticed a few technical issues this week with the blog and website going back and forth from old to new. That should all now be resolved, thank you for your patience. We had to unfortunately switch servers (AGAIN, we have bad luck in this department, hopefully third times a charm) due to people not receiving emails. If you emailed us with in the last week and we haven’t replied, please resend, we’d love to chat, we probably just did not receive your email.

Now onto some fun stuff, we have a bunch of pretty cool things going on:

Shandro Photo has a giveaway for a free engagement photoshoot and guestbook, along with a $75 Stella + Dot credit from me. Click here for this giveaway.

Whimsical Cake also has a big giveaway going on with lots of wedding vendors, you’re going to want to win something from all those prizes, perhaps even the beautiful necklace I’ve donated. Click here for this giveaway.

Blake Loates Photography is having an open house, she has hired us on to help plan the event for her. She just acquired a studio for herself, it’s beautiful.

We are featured in February issue of Weddings in Alberta, you’ll need to pick up a copy!

We were also recently featured on Wedding Obsession, click here to see some fabulous inspiration.

Wow, lots going on, and that’s just the stuff we can tell you about. Stay tuned we have lots more going on, and again, thank you for your patience and continued follower-ship!

Is it too late?

I receive a lot of questions about how much time is required to plan a wedding. Really, you don’t need much time at all. So if you were recently engaged and would like to get married this year, don’t worry you have time. As long as you don’t have your heart set on a specific date and venue you should be okay. You need to first start with priorities, if you have always known you will be married in the Basilica and it’s only available on June 2 at 3 p.m. you may need to be a little bit flexible with the rest of your planning. If you don’t have your heart set on anything you shouldn’t have a problem at all.

1. Set your priorities and budget, and vision
2. Select a Ceremony and Reception Venue + Date
3. Start booking all your vendors (the ones that can only book one wedding a weekend are where you want to start i.e. photographers/planners) and order you dress – it takes up to six months to order!

Keep in mind the busy months for wedding are June, July, August, and September, if you have a wedding in one of the less popular months you will be able to have the venues and vendors you want!

Bridal Show Tips

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

edmonton-wedding-expo

They can be very exciting and extremely overwhelming. Bridal shows come to Edmonton in September and then again in January.

Here are some tips on how to survive bridal shows if you choose to attend:

1. Go early. Earlier you go the less line ups and there will still be ‘freebies’ and fliers, also vendors have more time to talk to you. Also if you plan on booking a vendor at the show (not recommended) then your date may still be available.

2. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes; it’s not a fashion show.

3. Pre plan. Pre plan your route through the halls, and your transportation to the event. They tend to hike up parking prices and parking can be very limited.

3. Bring a bag. Not only a bag but a bag with bottles of water, and some snacks. The food at these events is usually price, not healthy and poorly cooked.

4. Create a free email account prior to going to the event, and use that email address to enter into draws. You will be spammed by vendors, sometimes even two years after you attended.

5. Pre-do little labels with your name and email address (refer to point #4), and mailing address. If you put your phone number, they will call you.

6. Bring a camera or iPhone to take photos, but remember to ask the vendor if it is okay for you to take pictures, that way if you see something you like you won’t have a hard time explaining it.

Finally only take fliers from companies you are truly interested in because it will only cause a headache for you to sort through at the end.

Upcoming Shows:

Spring
Bridal Fair: January 15, 2012; Shaw Conference Centre
Bridal Fantasy
:  January 22, 2012;  Edmonton Expo Centre

You’re Engaged Now What?

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

edmonton-wedding-planner
Most brides take the first opportunity to go to the dress store and forget the basics. When planning such an important event there are a few things you need to look at before ever stepping in a dress store.

First think of the kind of wedding the two of you want. Is it local, destination, large, small etc. (you don’t need to determine colors or theme but a general idea of your wedding).

Second set your priorities for the wedding – is it the budget, venue, dress, photos, food, number of guests?

The third thing you need to sit down and look at before hiring anyone or even looking at those dresses, is BUDGET. The first two steps coincide with the budget. Unfortunately you cannot have a princess wedding, with 300 guests on a $10,000 budget. You also need to discuss upfront with the parents or anyone else involved if they will be contributing.

Once the budget, priorities, and vision have been discussed you can go dress, venue, photographer, etc. shopping. If you don’t do these steps first you will only cause yourself frustration, and possibly hurt your budget.

Happy Planning!

Alex + Frank: December 31

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Alex + Frank were married at the Country Lodge (in the loft) in the afternoon of December 31. They originally wanted to be married in a log cabin in the mountains but this was this was a better choice being closer to family. Alex was so relaxed and absolutely stunning. For centre pieces lanterns from ikea war enlaced upon black and silver stars cut from paper and three tea light holders that were modified (mode podgy + marth stewart glitter) surrounded the lantern. Simple, yet very pretty!

Just before midnight champagne and new year’s party items were placed out and a count down started. It was a fabulous party and a great way to start the new year!

Please keep in mind these are my photos, and they really don’t do anyone justice, I’ll post the professional ones from DB Photographics when available.

Venue: Country Lodge
Photographer: DB Photographics (not the photos above)
Florals: Akiko Floral Artistry
Cake: Whimsical Cake Studio
